Life as a Waspi woman: I’ve had a bad fall, ill health and I need crutches but I have to work

The Women Against State Pension Inequality (Waspi) campaign has been running since 2015. These women are fighting for compensation for how changes to the state pension age were communicated to them. The 1995 Pensions Act timetable was drawn up to make the state pension age (SPA) for women rise from 60 to 65 in order to bring it in line with the state pension age for men. A further hike for both men and women came in 2007, and in 2011 the coalition Government accelerated SPA to 66 for everyone by 2020. The DWP did not begin sending letters personally informing women of the 1995 act until 2009, although many Waspi women say they have never received a letter.
